I wanted to provide you with an update regarding cycle theft, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Bike Theft Prevention Tips
Double Lock Your Bike Use two high-quality locks, ideally a D-lock and a chain or cable lock. Different lock types require different tools to break, making theft harder. [met.police.uk] Lock the Frame and Both Wheels Secure the frame and both wheels to a sturdy, immovable object like a cycle stand. Avoid flimsy railings or signposts. [met.police.uk] Choose Safe Parking Spots Park in well-lit areas with CCTV or designated secure cycle parking. Avoid leaving bikes in isolated or predictable locations. [which.co.uk] Remove Accessories Take lights, saddle, or quick-release wheels with you, or use locking skewers to secure them. [met.police.uk] Register Your Bike Register for free on BikeRegister, the UK’s only police-approved cycle database. This helps police return your bike if stolen. [bikeregister.com] Security Marking Mark your bike with your postcode in two places (one hidden). Visible markings deter thieves and aid recovery. [ourwatch.org.uk] Home Security Lock bikes inside a secure garage or shed using a ground anchor and a Sold Secure-approved lock. Avoid leaving bikes in communal hallways. [ourwatch.org.uk] Insurance Consider insuring high-value bikes and keep receipts, photos, and frame numbers for proof of ownership. [ourwatch.org.uk] Act Fast if Stolen Report immediately via Met Police online and update BikeRegister. Provide frame number, photos, and details. [met.police.uk]
